1. Introduction

Experience Japan, in collaboration with Sri Vishnu Educational Society (SVES), Hyderabad, successfully conducted the Sakura Language Awareness Program (SLAP) from March 10th to March 14th, 2025. This online program aimed to introduce students of SVES to the Japanese language and culture, highlighting its relevance in today's globalized world and exploring potential career opportunities.

2. Program Objective

The primary objectives of the SLAP were:

  • To introduce students to the fundamentals of the Japanese language.

  • To provide insights into Japanese culture and customs.

  • To highlight the benefits of learning Japanese.

  • To explore career opportunities for Japanese language professionals.

  • To foster an interest in Japanese language and culture among the students of SVES.

3. Program Details

The SLAP program was structured as a five-day online course, with each session meticulously led by Mr. Jitender Mehta. The curriculum began with foundational elements, introducing the complexities of the Japanese writing systems—Hiragana, Katakana, and Kanji—along with essential greetings and etiquette. Progressing through the week, students delved into basic grammar and vocabulary, reinforced by interactive exercises. Cultural immersion was a key component, featuring explorations of Japanese festivals, cuisine, and popular culture. Crucially, the program addressed the practical aspects of learning Japanese, elucidating its benefits in a global context and detailing diverse career opportunities for language professionals. This structured progression aimed to provide a well-rounded introductory experience.

4. Participation and Engagement

The program received an overwhelming response, with 534 students registering from various institutes within SVES. However, due to various factors, the actual attendance was approximately 220 students along with some faculty members. The students actively participated in the sessions, asking questions and engaging in interactive activities. The faculty members also showed keen interest, contributing to the enriching discussions.

5. Program Initiation and Appreciation

The SLAP was initiated by Dr. Raju, Dean of SVES, whose vision and support were instrumental in the program's success. Experience Japan extends its sincere gratitude to Dr. Raju for his proactive approach and commitment to providing valuable learning opportunities for the students. We also express our appreciation to the deans of various institutions under SVES, faculty members, and management of SVES for their collaboration and support.
